As our country transitions to cleaner sources of energy and income on native lands and across the U.S. (which – technically – is all Native land), we need to ensure benefits of renewable projects uplift the native communities they’re sited in.
Community Fund Resources Supports Community Impacted by Coal Plant Retirement
Avantus (formerly 8minute) has partnered with Navajo United Way to invest nearly $100,000 per year in the LeChee community of the Navajo Nation through the newly created Red Antelope Community Fund (Fund). The Fund will support local initiatives and projects that create social, environmental, economic, and other benefits important to community members.

In September, 8minute Solar Energy (8minute) revealed its new vision beyond solar development to include an advanced ecosystem of clean energy products and services. To reflect its expanded scope of advanced technologies in the renewable energy space, 8minute has rebranded to Avantus.

LECHEE, Ariz. - Over the past few months, the Red Antelope Solar team has done significant local outreach in LeChee Chapter to educate community members about the proposed solar development.

LECHEE, Ariz. – On July 19 and 20, LeChee Chapter and surrounding community members came out to learn about the utility-scale Red Antelope Solar and energy storage plant, a proposed development by the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA and 8minute Solar Energy (8minute).

LECHEE CHAPTER – LeChee and surrounding community members are invited to the Red Antelope Project Open House on June 19 and 20 at the LeChee Chapter House. Details about the utility-scale solar project will be displayed and NTUA and 8minute representatives will be on-site to answer questions.

NAVAJO NATION – In April 2019, the Navajo Nation Hayoołkaał proclamation prioritized a transition toward a balanced energy portfolio and the pursuit of renewable energy development for the long-term benefit of the Navajo people, becoming a new economic vision rooted in clean and renewable energy.
